Department of Physics professors represented Mapúa University at the 2019 Filipino Scholars Symposium in Kansai held on July 8 – 9, 2019 at the Icho-Kaikan Hall of Osaka University, Suita Campus, Japan.
The 2-day symposium was organized by the Osaka University Institute of Laser Engineering (ILE) with the objective of strengthening the academic and research relations among Filipino and Japanese students, researchers, and professors.
Representatives from Mapúa University led by Dr. Jacque Lynn Gabayno (who is on cross-appointment at ILE), Dr. Rayda Gammag, Dr. Ernest Macalalad, and Dr. Carlos Baldo met with the participants from Osaka University, Kansai Photon Science Institute (Kyoto), Fukui University (Fukui), Kobe University (Kobe), and Nara Institute of Science and Technology (Nara) and the University of the Philippines.
They used the occasion to discuss the undergraduate programs offered by the department, the innovative digital learning environment promoted in Mapúa, and potential scholarly activities (e.g. student exchange, internship, joint-research) that can be undertaken between Mapúa University and Japan.
Laboratory tours to several advanced facilities of Osaka University such as the GEKKO XII High-power Laser System of ILE and the Gamma-Ray Radiation Facility of the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research were conducted after the symposium. ♦
